Hughson Unified School District has adopted a new look for its logo as well as updated its Mission Statement, Vision and Slogan.

The previous Mission, Vision, Slogan, and Logo were created during the unification of the Hughson Unified School District 20 years ago.  Prior to the unification, Hughson was comprised of two school districts; a K-8 district – Hughson Union School District and a 9-12 district, Hughson High School District.  When the two school districts merged into one, they created a logo and a statement that reflected that unification. Now 2o years later, the district once again has revised its look.

“In the past 20 years, we have had a lot of changes in education.  In Hughson we have embraced technology in our classrooms and have also put an emphasis on leadership and citizenship,” said Brenda Smith, HUSD Superintendent. “We felt that it was time for us to add a fresh modern look to our district while honoring the agriculture traditions in our community.  Our new Mission, Vision, Slogan and Logo reflect that.”

The Mission, Vision, and Slogan were created by a committee of HUSD board members, administrators, teachers, staff, students and community members who gave input to make sure that the new wording and designs accurately reflected the culture and perspective of Hughson schools.

Hughson High art teacher, Nick Brown, was responsible for the sophisticated and elegant design of the new logo.

“To design the look for the new logo, I did preliminary sketches that I passed around to the committee.  After input back from them, I designed a sleek look that looked towards the future and expressed the idea of technology,” Brown stated.  “I also wanted to tie in the region’s agricultural roots. I wanted to create the look of the flat horizon to represent the central valley and to have the H appear as a computer network grid and path leading to the future.”

Revealed to the public for the first time at the last board meeting, the new mission statement was also presented and reads: Hughson schools are committed to providing a safe innovative learning environment that prepares our students for the successful accomplishment of their personal and professional goals. Our students will be socially responsible citizens committed to the enrichment of our community.

The new Vision Statement reads: Cultivating learners today and leaders for tomorrow and the new Slogan reads: Educate, Empower, Excel.

“The Mission, Vision, Slogan, and Logo all maintain the importance of students, of student achievement, and of the community while adding new learning environments and the accomplishment of student personal and professional goals,” said Debra Davis, HHS principal.
