HHS Ag Teacher Ms. Voss.

Mya Guel, Staff Reporters

Mya Guel: What made you want to be a teacher?

Ms. Voss: Since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a veterinarian. Once I got into highschool I started doing a lot of public speaking and taking on leadership roles on campus and in clubs. I learned I loved acting as a facilitator to students which is essentially what I do to your guys’ learning experience. My ag teachers (Mrs. Larson, Mr. Ellington and Miss Schmidig) really pushed me into pursuing ag education as a degree and becoming an ag teacher.

Mya Guel: If you weren’t teaching what would you be doing?

Ms. Voss: If I weren’t teaching, I think I would still be involved in the ag industry. After going to an ag college and seeing all the options that are out there for animal science, I think working with embryology in livestock would be awesome.  Like mentioned before, I had wanted to be a vet for the longest time growing up so I could probably see myself working with livestock if I wasn’t teaching.

Mya Guel: What is one place you’ve always wanted to visit?

Ms. Voss: One place I have always wanted to visit is Hawaii. I know so many people that have gone but I never have. I guess you could say I’m pretty envious of those who have gone but I have also heard it’s not all it’s talked up to be. Overall, I think it would be such a fun and relaxing trip to go on.

Mya Guel: What was your favorite extracurricular activity growing up?

Ms. Voss: My favorite extracurricular activity growing up was being involved in FFA. We were always traveling and meeting students from other schools. I was actually on Hughson FFA’s Poultry Judging team where we judged chickens, eggs, poultry carcasses and other poultry products. I was a part of the State and National Winning Poultry team in 2014.

Mya Guel: Did you show any animals growing up and if so what was your favorite?

Ms Voss: Growing up I showed pigs in 4h and FFA. I started showing when I was 9 years old. I never got to jackpot but I had fun showing at the Stanislaus County Fair every year. I loved showing pigs because they are smart and have such unique personalities. I always wanted to show larger animals such as beef or dairy but my family didn’t have the facilities for that kind of livestock growing up.
