Everyone knows that after Halloween students get excited for thanksgiving break and winter break. The changing of the weather from scorching hot to feeling a chilling breeze all day. But the real question is, how motivated are students during winter with all the excitement that is going on?
Savannah Fuller is a Junior at Hughson High School who is involved with volleyball, basketball, softball, and ASB. With doing all the sports she does plus help with the school planning all the upcoming events, she can get very stressed and unmotivated at times. Fuller said, “I feel that winter is definitely the hardest time for me to focus on my grades because of basketball starting up and the weather changing. The cold really does affect me, if it’s raining all I want to do is stay inside and watch movies, and if it’s cloudy and cold then I feel like I shouldn’t be doing school work and I should just be in my bed.”
Emma Holly is a Junior who is involved with Nami, CSF, and the tennis team. Holly is taking some very difficult challenging classes this year including AP’s and overall the harder classes that are offered. Emma said, “During the time before Thanksgiving and Christmas break, I tend to start slacking off more than before. But I know that this is the time to really focus so I make sure I complete all of my work well and try to find new routines to make sure I’m not draining myself all while focusing on keeping good grades.”
Amaris Noyce is a Senior who is on the HHS tennis team. Lately Noyce has been practicing a lot in preparation for the upcoming tennis season. Since Amaris is a senior and playing a sport, she is very busy with practice and getting all of her senior stuff done and out of the way. Amaris had said, “Since it is winter it has been harder than ever to find the motivation to actually get out of bed and go to school. The thing that I find really difficult about the winter time is when I go home and I have to do my homework. I really rather just cuddle up in bed and watch a movie but I know that my work is just going to pile up if I don’t do it that day. So I would say that during the winter time it is quite difficult to stay motivated instead of doing other unproductive activities.”
From these girls you can now see how hard it is to be a student during the winter season. Fun winter activities, the weather, and overall just losing motivation to stay on top of work is all distracting to any one who is a student. But even with the distractions and losing motivation, students have managed to get back on track and remember that the important stuff needs to get done first.
