Thanksgiving is a very special holiday celebrated throughout the world. With this holiday comes many different traditions. Throughout Hughson High School, many different ethnicities and cultures have their own special way of celebrating Thanksgiving each year.
Senior Taylor Ferreira says, “On Thanksgiving my mom makes a lot of her foods that she grew up with, just like family foods that we had. Instead of normal potatoes we get sweet potatoes because she’s from Oklahoma, and we usually have our family from Arizona fly out and then my mom just makes Thanksgiving dinner for everyone.”
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful and gather to cherish all that you’re grateful for. Especially with family no matter the cost even flying out from states to come visit. Some peoples traditions range through everyone to something small, or something big or even celebrating thanksgiving differently.
Kaytlyn Moon, a freshman says, “My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is actually not celebrating thanksgiving on Thanksgiving, we do it either four days before or four days after Thanksgiving.”
Despite it all, everyone had different traditions and family activities even considering the cold fall weather, Gabriel Lemmons, a freshman at HHS said his favorite tradition on Thanksgiving is, “We have a water balloon fight before Thanksgiving dinner and then the day after we play football.”
As families gather, they reflect on their Thanksgiving traditions and the memories they had created. With hearts full of gratitude, they realize that it isn’t just about the food, but about the love and togetherness they shared. Thanksgiving would always be a special time for them to cherish and continue their cherished traditions.
