This season is looking good for the Hughson Varsity Basketball team. The coaches have been adding a lot to the program as well as preparing their players and getting them in shape. The coaches have been responsible for taking care of all their players since the beginning of the non-league season during summer ball. They will use this to determine what we are missing and what their strengths and weaknesses are as individuals and as a team.
Varsity Head Coach Riggs and Junior Varsity Coach Seeley have been working together this summer to help prepare both levels as best as they can to be prepared to have a winning season. With only a few practices before the first game day, the team played multiple games a day, sometimes back to back. This gave the team a feeling of being able to get a whole season’s worth of game time and experience in the span of a month. This court time has given those who played summer ball a boost above those who haven’t.
The teammates in the Varsity team have good communication, so the coordination between our plays will be matched. A lot of the players are from the same JV team from last year who have advanced into varsity which is why the coordination will be in sync. Teamwork is important in basketball. Players must trust their teammates to make good calls, pass the ball when they need to, and to defend them and the basket. Basketball promotes teamwork by the unity there is on and off the court. Our teamwork and coordination among team members is what makes our team different compared to other teams.
All together with the coaches providing training, safety, and using what they have learned. The team being filled with players who are united and knowing how they all play together. The team includes a ton of last year’s JV team making their teamwork and energy to help each other out on the court.
