Everyone knows the story about Santa Claus and how every year during Christmas he brings presents to children all over the world. But a handful of children know the dark side of Christmas and the story of Krampus.
Krampus is a German story that originated in the twelfth century. His name is from a German word (Krampen) which means claw, which is also to be the son of Hel in Norse Mythology. He is a half demon and half goat, a terrifying beast. To go into more depth on what he looks like he has big horns, dark hair, a long tongue, and fangs. Instead of coming with a big red sack full of toys he comes with a bouquet of birch sticks.
Now for anyone asking, what does he do and what is his purpose? Krampus was created to make sure that kids behaved well, otherwise Krampus would come to their rooms and beat them with sticks and he would take them away to his lair. Reporting to a folklore, Krampus would come during December fifth right before St. Nickolas day.
Many people choose to keep the story of Krampus away from their kids and out of their home. Some see it as a demonic story that should be kept away, but the Germans seem to disagree and keep the old story of Krampus alive around their children.
