The first week of December the Hughson High Ag Department started their annual Christmas toy drive for St. Anthony’s church. Every year all of the ag teachers offer 1 FFA credit each toy a student brings. The toy price has to range between 10-20 dollars, and of course not only students donate but parents and other people in the community also help out with toy donations and other donations such as cans and fresh fruit as well.
Mrs. Maciel, one of the ag teachers here at Hughson that helps out with the toy drive stated, “The toy drive lasts for about a week or maybe even longer and it helps a lot of children and families in need, and also to contribute to the baskets we take some of our FFA members fruit picking for oranges and apples at Duarte Nursery and La Cantes apple farm over on Tully.”
Another one of Hughson High’s Ag teachers Mr. Ellington stated that, “all of the churches in the Hughson community all come together to provide a Christmas dinner, food for a week and baskets with toys, fresh fruit, canned foods, and even more necessities that these families in need would really appreciate.”
“We generally help between 400 to 450 families each year just to help them get that extra help they might need.”
This is an amazing opportunity to help the families in need and to get involved more with the community of Hughson.
