Freshman year is one of the most eventful years of high-school. Coming from middle school as an upperclassmen and graduating and going to high school and being the lower class men, now being the underdogs was a big change for us. As freshman we have already seen so many new changes, experienced many new things, and made many new bonds through school and sports
Throughout the past few months here at Hughson High some of the most cherished moments we will ever experience are Friday night lights and being able to be in the student section cheering our returning division 6 champions. Even though the season sadly came to an end we will never forget being able to see our friends cheer on the field and watching our huskies play football. We also have made many new friendships through volleyball and soccer and many other sports that have really impacted our lives. Sports gave us teammates that are welcoming and always supportive even coming onto a team where you don’t know that many people. When playing sports you will grow so many bonds that you will cherish. Not only is it about the people you are around and how supportive they are, it’s the teachers. Some teachers you don’t even know first coming into high school but they have such a welcoming and comforting presence to where you know you could talk to them.
With high school comes many more events and opportunities to go to social events like dances and rally’s that some schools don’t even have so being able to be involved as a freshman means a lot. As a freshman you also want to get yourself involved with as much as you can, clubs, going to sports games, meetings etc. Before when we were in 8th grade we were always told by upperclassmen to put yourself out there once you’re a freshman for any opportunity because joining clubs and going to things that school holds gives you that full high school experience starting off your years here at Hughson High.
All throughout middle school teachers and current high school students were always telling you how much was going to change. No matter how many times we heard this throughout our middle school years I don’t think any of us ever thought it would be true. We just thought people were exaggerating. However, as soon as it was our first day of being a high schooler we knew that what they said was true. Before even stepping in the gates we could immediately tell how different this was from middle school. At first it was like we weren’t even at home anymore. While being at Ross Middle School it was like we knew all the faces that we would see everyday but stepping into Hughson High there were so many new faces that we weren’t use to seeing on a regular everyday basis. Everyone looked so adultish and mature to us that it felt like we almost didn’t belong anymore.
Another thing that I didn’t expect to be a big change was my friend group. In middle school I was always told that another change to expect was my friend group. During my last year of middle school was when I made the most friends that I thought was going to be my life long friend group. We always talked about how we absolutely HAD to stay together through high school and I don’t think any of us expected the changes that came with being in high school. Going into the new year we were all starting different sports which really didn’t allow a lot of room for us to hang out like we used to. So many new people began to filter into our friend group that none of us expected and some people left to go their own ways with new friends. I never expected it to be true but stepping into high school everything became so real and I knew this was a new big chapter opening up in my life.;l
