As freshmen, finals have been very stressful for us. We’ve always known that they were a thing to expect every year as high school students but I don’t think we ever expected them to be this stressful. For the week leading up to finals I don’t think any of us have felt more stressed than we are now. We’ve all been trying to prepare ourselves while still maintaining all the work that we are still being assigned. It’s also hard trying to figure out what finals passes you want to use for what class. Here at Hughson High, students have the opportunity to get out of a final by using finals passes handed out by the school. We can earn these passes based on our grades. It’s hard trying to work out what classes we can skip and which ones we should or have to take. As freshmen, I think we all want to get out of as many as we can.
All throughout elementary school and middle school we were used to having to take tests. During third grade, we took our first ever big test that we would continue to take almost every year which would also help us be prepared for tests in the future. Something about having to take our first ever final this year is so stressful. Knowing that this test is coming up right before the end of the semester and knowing that it could have a negative impact on our permanent grade is VERY stressful.
Trying to prepare ourselves for these finals has been a very difficult and a very pressured process. Naturally, we all want to have as many finals passes as possible. It has been our goal to try and take the least amount of finals as possible. However, for the ones we do have to take it has been a very frustrating process trying to prepare ourselves. There’s so much studying to do while still having to keep up with all the current work still being assigned. This whole week, while the pressure is on to prepare ourselves, it seems like our teachers have been assigning more work than ever.
As freshman, our first year taking finals has been very stressful. It’s been a long and demanding process to make sure we are fully prepared. Through all the stress the only thing that seems to be getting us through these couple weeks is knowing that at the end of all these tests is Christmas break!
