Bathroom Passes have been a common feature of elementary schools for a while. A way to keep track of possible runaway students in elementary school. But recently, the high school has returned the whole system with some new rules. I personally have some rather tough feelings about this whole resurrection myself, so I wanted to cover it as an end-of-the-year treat for those who read the Paw.
Now, first, we ask “Why”? Why do we need to resurrect the passes to keep people from going to the bathroom? Well, I think it could be the result of people ditching class and/or hiding in the bathroom. People tend to dip out of class and sit in the bathroom to avoid class, or perhaps dabble in some darker things that I don’t really wanna mention in hopes it’s just my thoughts drawing imaginary shapes in my head. So I can see WHY they need passes again, but it’s still just not really sensical to me.
The whole thing that sets this apart from normal potty pass systems is that it’s locked out to only be available after the first 5 minutes of class. Why 5 minutes? No idea. My only assumption is so they can catch people in bootleg tardy sweeps to catch people in the act of ditching or hiding. While that is certainly an idea that works, it really seems a dumb idea to prevent people who have tight schedules from not being able to go to class then divert course once you arrive, though I guess you can wait as needed if you don’t desperately need to.
To summarize, I personally think the new bathroom system seems rather arbitrary. It serves to just bother only those who hide or sneak into bathrooms. It just seems rather strange that we had to revert to such a system.
