On March 25th, 2022, Denzel Curry released his fifth studio album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future. And in my opinion, is an underrated album of the list of 2022 hip hop albums. The meaning behind Melt My Eyez, is that it’s a metaphor for people’s tendency to avoid facing difficult topics everyday. And See Your Future is to not focus on the past, but yet focus on what’s next to come. The genre of MMESYF is hip hop / rap. This album includes 14 tracks that equal 45 minutes and 10 seconds. Features include Robert Glasper, Buzzy Lee, Saul Williams, Bridget Perez, T-Pain, 6LACK, Buddy, Rico Nasty, JID, Jasiah, Kitty Cash, Karriem Riggins, and Slowthai.
Melt Session #1 is my favorite track of this album. Denzel talks about his inner struggles, self-improvement, and growth as a music artist. The soulful feeling of this song with the backing vocals and just instrumentals used is very nice.
Walkin is the most popular track off MMESYF, and it is given since it’s a great song. The very upbeat feels and catchy verses mix very well together. Denzel talks about how people are set up for failure in this world and to not rely on other people to succeed in life.
Worst Comes To Worst talks about how worst comes to worst, withstand it. The song overall is good, but if you’re not listening to the lyrics, it doesn’t get a bit repetitive.
John Wayne is very similar to Worst Comes To Worst, with the lyrics being about difficult environments and to resist in that environment. But it’s also similar to Worst Comes To Worst, being repetitive
The Last is also like the last two tracks, but I just like The Last a little more than the rest. With the calmer vibe is more appealing to me than the last songs. Denzel talks about the dangerous lives being lived in the USA.
Mental is another soulful track, which is amazing with the features of Bridget Perez and Saul Williams. This song explores the significance of your mental state and what resides in your mind. The track is a great listen.
Troubles is a really catchy track for MMESYF. The beat, verses from Denzel and T-Pain, and lyrics about frustration and personal fulfillment mix so well.
Ain’t No Way expresses determination in the face of adversity. Just the amount of features of this song are crazy. And those features include 6LACK, Buddy, Rico Nasty, JID, Jasiah, Kitty Cash. My favorite features from this track are JID and 6LACK with their verse and performance on the chorus. But this song is pretty good overall, although I prefer the second and third verse over the first.
X-Wing is a great track in general with the catchy verses and chorus. Denzel raps about setting really high goals and striving to reach them.
Angelz is an amazing soulful track with the feature of Karriem Riggins. Denzel explores self-discovery and life’s tribulating trials. The chorus from Karriem is great, with the verses coming from Denzel.
The Smell Of Death to me, is really similar to a MF Doom song, which I really like. Although it’s a very short song, I think it really conveys personal strength and the warfare of one’s action really well.
Sanjuro is a great upbeat song with the beat and lyrics talking about the perseverance of everyday life.
Zatoichi is my favorite upbeat track from MMESYF. The first verse really sets the bar on how great this song is gonna be. The calming backing vocals from slowthai while having the crazy bassful Denzel verses contrast well.
The Ills has an absolute vibe throughout the song. It just really fits well with the jolly time of December. The piano and the beat fit surprisingly well together.
Melt My Eyez See Your Future has some lows, but the highs make up for them so well. For a first listen, it will be a great first listen. Overall, I think this album is heavily underappreciated and is a great album. But, you have to listen to the Cold Blooded Soul version of this album, it will make all these tracks 100x better. It just gives it a new jazzy feeling of MMESYF.
