As 2024 begins to unfold, 2023 is wrapped up. And with 2023 being finished, 2023’s music is also finished. So this article will show you what R&B and Hip Hop albums are good listens.
One of the most anticipated albums of 2023, Utopia, is probably one of the best albums in 2023. With almost all of the tracks off this album being bangers like Sirens, Looove, Skitzo, FE!N, and I Know makes it hold up with all of the hype Utopia got.
For All The Dogs by Drake was another highly anticipated album like Utopia, but I feel as if it didn’t hit as hard as Utopia. Although it still has hits like FPS, 8am in Charlotte, and IDGAF. So I would say, it’s still a good listen.
Never Enough from Daniel Caesar as said from my album review, is an amazing R&B album with all songs in it being hits while still feeling underrated. Just how Daniel has variety in this album makes every track fresh when listening makes this album what it is, a good listen.
Voir Dire from Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist is a great listen with The Alchemist’s producing and Earl doing what he does. Just the old school feel while keeping everything short and sweet makes Voir Dire a solid track list. Songs like Vin Skully, Heat Check, and Free The Ruler really show how 90’s hip hop still sounds amazing to this day.
Call Me If You Get Lost : The Estate Sale from Tyler The Creator is a crazy good deluxe overall. It just adds perfect songs like Sorry Not Sorry, Dogtooth, and Heaven To Me to an already good album.
New Blue Sun from Andre 3000 was an unexpected album coming from Andre and although it isn’t Hip Hop or R&B, it still is made by a hip hop artist. And for its genre, experimental flute music, it is a great listen if you are interested in flute music. And the names of the songs are interesting to say the least.
Lahai from Sampha is another amazing R&B album. Sampha’s diversity of music while being extremely underrated always boggles my mind when Lahai can be considered the best R&B album in 2023.
Overall, 2023 wasn’t filled with many Hip Hop or R&B albums, but there were some hits like these that make up for the rest of the albums.
