Hoopscoming is a tradition held at many schools throughout the US. It may not be in some schools new or old, but we have had Hoopscoming here at HHS for quite a bit of time. Hoopscoming is also very exciting for those who get nominated although it may be hard competing against the upper-classmen.
Mrs. Moring, Vice Principal here at Hughson High, explained her remembrance of the tradition, “When I went [to] high school here Hoopscoming was a little different, it was attached to winter royalty”
Moring also stated, “The seniors were the one who were nominees.”
According to Mrs. Moring, “Hoopscoming has evolved a lot from then.”
As it has changed throughout many years, we all know how it all became a thing, because homecoming plays a big part in the idea of Hoopscoming. Although Hoopscoming may not have that big parade, or fun activities during the week. Mrs. Brazil said, “Before that all we had was homecoming during football and a lot of other schools were doing Hoopscoming.”
Bailey Peters, Hughson High’s 2024 Hoopscoming Princess said, “I was very surprised but very grateful,” when she first found out about her nomination. Although Hoopscoming might not get the same recognition as Homecoming, it’s still an exciting and just as special experience.
Throughout the years, Hoopscoming has changed and evolved a lot. From the very beginning to now, it has gained a lot more recognition and more and more schools are starting to participate in this event every year.
