For this season’s summary of the season we have a few representatives from each sport this past winter season. The student athletes we have selected are from boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, and wrestling! Each representative has given insight on how this season went for our Hughson huskies.
For Boys Soccer we have Ernie Mendoza, who is a Senior on the Boys Varsity Soccer Team and he’s said, “The Boys soccer team wasn’t all there yet we had our ups and downs towards the middle of the season. We were able to connect more as a team than individual people but after we connected, we started to win games, and we went on a winning streak. This year we were able to make it to the playoffs.”
For Girls Soccer we have Presley Wells, who is a Sophomore on the Girls Varsity Soccer team and she stated, ”this soccer season was not our best season, but, it was still fun to play with all my senior friends for this being the last year I can play with them. We sadly didn’t make it to the playoffs. However, we won a league game and lost the rest but we did tie 1. The team as a whole was very close this year like a family. Our team had lots of fun at practice with the coach and all my teammates. But hopefully next year our season will be better.”
For Wrestling we have Drew Perez, who is a Senior on the Boys Varsity Wrestling Team and he said, ”We needed taking 3rd as a team in TVL, we didn’t finish where we wanted, we fell short of team duels, but the team is very young and still has a lot of time to grow and get better.”
For Boys Basketball we have Cade Mclaughlin, who is a Senior on the Boys Varsity Basketball Team and he stated, ”the season was very good, I’m proud how hard we worked, obviously the season didn’t end how we would have chosen but we showed growth throughout the season. Some things I liked about this group was our chemistry, team work, and our ability to push through hard situations. I think other teams were viewed as underdogs the whole season and we didn’t let it affect the way we played. Things like team dinner and summer ball brought us together and made us a better team.”
For Girls Basketball we have Maddie Duron, a Senior on the Girls Varsity Basketball Team and she stated, ”we tied for TVL champs, and we won league back to back which is unheard of for girls basketball especially for Hughson, it was super exciting we started the season slow but the best thing is every game we got better. We have the closest bond and a sick team room, our bond and effort is what carried us to be this successful.”
