Everyone knows that as spring approaches the daylight hours start increasing. We all also know that we have to change our clocks an hour ahead which contributes to not as much sleep that night. So for those who are wondering how daylight saving works, how people feel about it, and who does and doesn’t participate in it keep reading!
This year daylight saving time will occur on Mar 10, 2024 at 2 a.m. Daylight saving time will end on Nov 3, 2024 at 2 a.m. Next year it will start again on March 9, 2025. Mr. Harcrow has said that he doesn’t particularly like daylight saving time because we lose an hour of sleep and daylight.
Abbe Stoneham, a Junior at Hughson High School said, “I really don’t like the time change because not only do we lose sleep but we also lose sunlight which kinda sucks.”
Most people think that everyone participates in daylight saving time but that is not right. Arizona, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S Virgin Islands do not participate in daylight saving time. The reason that Arizona does not participate is because of its desert climate. But the Navajo National does follow daylight saving. The reason that Hawaii does not follow is because of its proximity to the equator.
