It’s almost impossible to walk anywhere in the school while somehow not seeing the turf field installed this year. It did take over what used to be a basketball court after all. I myself, of course, have a few things to say about it. The easiest place to start is of course the construction of the little area and what was done to prepare the field.
Around the start of the 2022-2023 school year, the school had begun several renovations. One of these was chopping down one of the old basketball courts that had been around the school for awhile, to make way for this new court. During this time, they locked down the area, which included a gate that served a decent shortcut between the back of the school and the rooms on the side of the gyms (Michaelis, Bland, ETC). They also barricaded the area with white little walls to keep people from bumbling into construction.
Upon its completion, it was used by PE Classes who needed a place to work out in case others were in use. The blockade at the classroom entry side however remained. Recently however, the school has put up a gate to allow access to and from this section of the campus, but it has been closed mostly. The reason is actually something I found out of curiosity, being that Lighthall doesn’t want the turf to be messed up by people walking all over it constantly (Hence why the gate is closed, to make people take the long way instead).
I find the gate is a nice way to divert a massive pile of traffic, but blocking that route was a really inconvenient thing for people coming to and from that side of the campus. I’m glad the route is open again, though I also appreciate the field for sports and stuff. I feel the school lacks a proper grass field like Ross or Fox Road, and this is pretty close to the same for those who might wanna play Soccer during Lunch in the future.
