As a freshman, an important part of your first year is how involved you are. Getting involved can give you new opportunities to make new relationships with your classmates and jump start your years in high school. Throughout high school you can join clubs, sport teams, community service, FFA. There are also school events you can attend like dances and sports games, which gives you more opportunities to interact with new people. As a freshman you have to learn about how to step out of your comfort zone and try new things, especially high school being so new. It’s all about exploring your interests and finding your place in the high school community.
Olivia Boggan, a freshman at Hughson High School recommended, “Definitely do sports! I think they’re a very important thing to be involved in during high school.”
Sports are a very fun and easy way to get involved during high school! You get to do something fun while also making a bunch of special bonds along the way.
Boggan continued, “Also get involved with clubs, dances, and hangout and have as much fun as you can.”
Being a part of a team can help you feel connected to your school and create a sense of community. Plus, sports teach you important skills like teamwork, discipline, and time management, especially battling with schoolwork. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend games and events, which can boost school spirit and make your high school experience even more exciting!
Maddie Felix, another freshman at HHS stated, “I think a really good way to get involved is joining sports, clubs, and also making friendships with teachers.”
Making friendships with teachers in high school is awesome because they can offer you guidance, support, and valuable advice. Building a positive relationship with your teachers can make your high school experience enjoyable and help you feel more comfortable asking for help when you need it. Teachers can also provide recommendation letters for college and jobs once you’re a senior, and having a good relationship with them will be good especially for recommendations.
As freshmen, one of the best ways to have the best first year experience is by getting involved. You can create so many new bonds, memories, and friendships!
