Luck is celebrated throughout many cultures. In the month of March it is often associated with the luck of a leprechaun, a figure for st. Patrick’s day. Patrick has long hated the holiday. Year after year he withstood the joke of his name, and his bright red hair, and the fact he only stands 5 feet 2 inches. As many may imagine, Patrick felt so unlucky to have been born with his name and his features, but this St. Patrick’s day, something changed.
On March 17, 2024 Patrick went to sleep as usual, but had a life changing dream. He encountered a short, middle aged man, with red hair who told him “luck always favors the brave.”
He woke up the next morning, still reluctant to attend school as he was insecure, but as he turned back he realized that four leaf clovers were growing with every step he took. It was then that Patrick recalled the dream of the weird man the night before…
His mindset that day startled all who talked to him, or better, those he talked to. Patrick got a burst of confidence from the feeling of being followed by the lucky plant, nothing would go wrong. The truth was however, Patrick was the same, he still had moments where he incorrectly answered the question in class despite feeling confident enough to raise his hand, and he still encountered embarrassing moments where people would jokingly call him St. Patrick. That day though, Patrick found true friends who he can joke with, friends who made him realize his name and features were not bad.
This change may have occurred due to his dream, but Patrick himself was never followed by four leaf clovers, in fact nobody knows for sure why he saw them. Still, his confidence and outlook allowed him to celebrate the following St. Patrick’s Day with great joy and friends; the true luck was in fact finding his own self.
