This is part two of last week’s Pondering Thoughts. This week is going to be the 7 modern wonders of the world. Check out Part 1 that was the 7 Ancient Wonders.
First up is the Great Wall of China, It’s length is about 13,170 miles. It was constructed in the 7th century. One fact about this “Great” Wall is that it actually was a terrible means of protection when first made.
Chichen Itza is an Ancient Mayan city located on the Peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico. It was in it’s prime around the 9th-10th century. They actually built a pyramid called El Castillo, The Castle, and it was 79 feet tall.
Next up is the ancient city of Petra, in Jordan. is located in a remote valley, nestled among sandstone mountains and cliffs. It was purported to be one of the places where Moses struck a rock and water gushed forth.
Machu Picchu was a secret Incan stronghold used during the 16th-century rebellion against Spanish rule. Although that claim was later disproved. It is located in Cuzco, Peru.
Christ the Redeemer, a colossal statue of Jesus, stands atop Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. Its origins date to just after World War I, when some Brazilians feared a “tide of godlessness,” they proposed a statue.
The Colosseum in Rome was built in the first century by order of Emperor Vespasian. It was capable of holding 50,000 spectators, who watched a variety of events. Perhaps most notable were gladiator fights, though men battling animals was also common.
Last but not least, is the Taj Mahal, It is a Mausoleum regarded as the finest example of Mughal Architecture, Emperor Shah Jahan Built it to honor his wife who had just passed away.
