The Hispanic Youth Leadership Community is hosting a Car Wash! If there is anything better than a carwash, it’s when the carwash is very inexpensive. On Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 9:00 am-1:30 pm, HYLC will be offering car washes for only five dollars! In charge of the fundraiser is Spanish teacher, and club adviser, Mrs. Newsome. 

Mrs. Newsome reveals that HYLC has held a carwash for the past 20 years! Initially held to support the end of the year field trip and student scholarships, “[their] goal is always $1000.” To achieve their goal, HYLC members “work hard” and “advertise” which often leads to a successful day. Mrs. Newsome adds that working on such a big event are around twenty to thirty HYLC members who can receive community service hours and eligibility for the end of the year field trip. Overall, Mrs. Newsome states that she “love[s] to see the students working together.” The HYLC car wash allows for students to “meet the community” and “have fun” she says.

The carwash is very accessible as well. Despite members having sold numerous tickets to the community themselves, any drive throughs are accepted even if one did not buy a ticket. It is important to note however that only cash or tickets will be accepted.
