When March rolls around all college basketball fans get excited for March Madness. March Madness is the time of the annual NCAA college basketball tournament, generally throughout the month of March. It was first introduced in 1939, with its first champion being Oregon. The term ‘March Madness’ was first used in reference to basketball by an Illinois high school official, Henry V. Porter, in 1939.
But the term wasn’t associated with it until Brent Musberger used it during a 1982 coverage of the tournament. The team with the most wins ever in the tournament is North Carolina with 131, The most appearances is by Kentucky, and the team with most championship wins is UCLA with 11.
The player with the most points in March of all time is Christian Laettner, and the player with most in a game is Austin Carr of Notre Dame.
