On June 8, 2018, Kanye West and Kid Cudi released a collaboration album named Kids See Ghost. Kanye and Cudi wrote Kids See Ghosts as a metaphor for struggles with mental health, addiction, and abuse. Just like Graduation, Kids See Ghosts album cover’s artist is Takashi Murakami. The genre of Kids See Ghost is Hip Hop, psychedelic, and progressive rap. Features of this album include Pusha T, Louis Prima, Ty Dolla $ign, and Yasiin Bey. This album includes 7 songs which equates to 23 minutes and 53 seconds.
Feel The Love is just a nice start to Kids See Ghost. For me, it is just nothing special. Although, I really do like the beat production. Feel The Love’s motives is a celebration of success and reveling in lavish living.
Fire is an amazing upbeat track from the duo. I really like how they added the flute-type instrumental in a heavier beat production. Fire is about overcoming challenges and reaching new heights.
4th Dimension is another outstanding track, and add the sample of Louis Prima’s “What Will Santa Claus Say” which makes this song so great. It’s another upbeat but heavy beat like Fire but just encapsulates the beat with it having more bass. 4th Dimension is a surreal and whimsical song that explores themes of excess, indulgence, and spiritual rebirth.
To me, Freeee (Ghost Town Pt.2) is not as great as Ghost Town and it’s a decent song in Kids See Ghosts. I think if it was more like Ghost Town, it would be more like my musical taste. Freeee is a declaration of liberation and freedom from the suffering of everyday life.
Reborn is a great uplifting track for this album. Cudi’s vocals are really shown in this song, and Kanye’s verses are pretty good. Reborn is a song about perseverance, growth, and resilience.
Kids See Ghosts wasn’t good at first, but when I listened to it more, it’s a solid song off of Kids See Ghosts. The Chorus is amazing and Kanye’s verses slap again. And with the feature of Mos Def is a nice one. Kids See Ghost is a song about spiritual awakening and seeking higher truth.
Cudi Montage is a solid outro track to Kids See Ghost. This song is another upbeat type song with the overall beat production and the lyrics. Cudi Montage features introspective verses from Kid Cudi and Kanye West with a chorus from Mr. Hudson about calling on a higher power for strength and salvation.
Overall, I think Kids See Ghosts is a highly sought after album from the duo and their discography in general. The duo really went for quality over quantity, and it’s great that they did. And its short listening time really embodies the saying, “short but sweet.”
