Solar Eclipses are rare. So rare that when they happen it’s basically a global phenomenon wherever it is in the world. But just because the darkest part isn’t over you doesn’t mean you are unable to see it, with proper protection of course. Though the contrarian in you likely wishes to ask, “Why can’t I just look up at the sun!?”
Of course, the general issue is the power of the sun. Normally, staring at the sun will hurt your eyes. But during an Eclipse, the light still exposed is much harsher than it normally is. This can REALLY hurt your eyes to a blinding degree! Totality can be safe to stare at, but as soon as it ends, you might end up being hurt. Looking away might be safest without special glasses.
However, the most important thing about this eclipse is the length before the next one. The next one is on August 23rd, 2044. So far it sounds like a Sci-Fi show or Cyberpunk. But no, that is indeed 20 years from now! Solar Eclipses don’t happen often, since they are just an accidental overlap between the sun and the moon.
