I am Jesenya Arredondo and I am a senior at Hughson High. I am planning on attending Sacramento State University as a music major. I have been a part of the Hughson High School Band for all of my four years at Hughson High. This has been my experience throughout my years at Hughson High School.
When I first started high school I was unsure of who I would meet or who I would lose. I had chosen band to be one of my electives because I have always had a passion for music and wanted to try to pursue a high school musical career. I did not know that my passion for a high school music career would turn into a full on career into my adult life. I hadn’t known the band director at Hughson High, Kayte Maki, like many other freshmen did from middle school so I was not sure how I would like her or if I would. My freshman year of high school had been over zoom since it was during the COVID-19 pandemic, this however did not stop Mrs.Maki from teaching her students and me from pursuing my high school music career.
Freshman year had an impact on me as well as my music class, due to the fact that it had become more than a passion. I had made it my goal during my junior year to pursue a career in music, specifically teaching. I had been inspired by Mrs.Maki and how she teaches and treats those around her. During my sophomore, junior and senior years I had been a part of the Hughson High School Band. I have learned breathing control, discipline, endurance as well as great leadership and communication skills. I have cherished every minute and moment of my time with the Hughson High School Band as well as the Hughson High School Pep Band, Jazz Band and Drumline. I have made many friends and consider some family. I highly recommend for any incoming freshman or any other grade, to join the band.
