In this article I’ve made a guide, kind of, of dabbling from hip hop to rock. I chose five artists/bands from a few rock enthusiasts and picked which ones are great starts for hip hop fans. And the picks I’ve chosen are either going to be from a few albums or a few songs.
The first pick of artists is Avenged Sevenfold. Avenged Sevenfold just feels nostalgic because they make video game tracks and they just have that feeling of the old days. Some of my favorite albums of their discography are their newer albums “Diamonds in the Rough” and “Life is But a Dream” because of their close resemblance to my taste. But their best work is for sure going to be City of Evil and The Stage. Some of my favorite songs from them are “Blinded in Chains” and “M.I.A.” What I would choose for a hip hop fan would be to listen to a mix of their metal rock and rock, those being the listed albums above.
If you want a more heavy metal experience, Slipknot is a great band for you then. Eyeless and People= are their best performances of heavy metal. Their best album for pure metal is Iowa because it’s just the best version of Slipknot.
My Chemical Romance is more of my type of rock because it resembles more of a pop vibe to me. The Black Parade and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge are the best for a first listener and just their best albums. With my favorite listens being Famous Last Words, I’m Not Okay, and This is How I Disappear.
Foo Fighters is the only group of artists I knew before this article because of how popular they are. “Everlong” is of course my favorite song from them right now, but as for albums, the best albums for me and a first listener are “There is Nothing Left to Lose” and “The Color And The Shape”.
Pierce the Veil has some of my favorite songs on the list, just because of their instrumentals and overall feeling they give. Collide With The Sky and Selfish Machines are my picks for a first listen and they’re just amazing albums. Songs from the albums that are great to me are Besitos, The Boy Who Could Fly, Caraphernelia, Hell Above, and A Match Into Water.
And some honorable recommendations are Soundgarden’s single, Black Hole Sun and Deftones albums, Koi No Yokan and White Pony.
Overall, my first listen was a great one. The best artists to me are Pierce The Veil, My Chemical Romance, and Avenged Sevenfold. Just the different vibes of rock to hip hop is refreshing. And I think everyone should listen to something different from time to time.
