The 2024 Track season is coming to an end for most of the people with the exception of the Varsity team members who have a few more competitions in May. With that in mind, it’s time to reflect on this season in a general sense.
The season overall was pretty great as there were plenty of things that happened during the season. Two school records were broken which is pretty cool. Those two school records were the 200m and the 300m hurdles. The 200m school record was broken by Malakai Sumter and what’s interesting about this record is that it was also broken last year in 2023 by Joe Lighthall. Maybe the 200m school record can be broken a third time next year. The 300m hurdles school record was broken by Larkin Meyer which is pretty cool. The 4×100 Throwers relay school record was also broken by Andres Barron, Zacary den Dulk, Alexis Rosales, and Hector Nuno Garcia but that isn’t on the board of track records near the snack shack unfortunately.
Besides school records being broken, what else happened? Hughson won most of their meets, only losing 2 in total. In those meets where the Hughson track team won, there was a decent gap in points between the opposing teams. The Hughson Track team unfortunately lost at the Ripon meet and the TVL championship but they did get 2nd place at the TVL championship which is still good.
This was a wonderful season. The next track season would be interesting as the seniors are graduating this May and the seniors on the team were heavy hitters when it came to competing like Ben Lighthall, Dominic Haupt, Case West, etc. Despite this, the new members of the team can make up for it next season. Let’s hope next season will be even better!
