On March 17, 2023, Rich Amiri released his second studio album, Evolution. Evolution’s genre is for the most part hip hop and rap. The cover is just Amiri posing in front of a pinkish red background. For the features, it’s really just Lil Tecca. The track list includes 12 songs which are 25 minutes and 19 seconds long.
‘Mention’ for the most part is okay, just nothing special in my eyes. To me it just sounds like a normal 2024 hip hop song. Mention primarily discusses the artist’s rise to success, his material wealth, and his relationships with women.
‘Don’t Feel Ya’ has the same mood as Mention, but Don’t Feel Ya is just more catchy. Don’t Feel Ya explores themes of wealth, success, and a sense of detachment from others who may not align with the narrator’s lifestyle or values.
‘Best Friend’ is one of the better songs on this album because of how good the fast paced beat production is and how well Amiri does it. Best Friend explores themes of loyalty, dominance, and relationships, particularly focusing on the dynamics of power and control.
‘Friend Of Me’ is just a solid song with the melodic chorus being my favorite part of this track. Friend Of Me explores themes of loyalty, success, and self-confidence.
‘Salty’ is an amazing slow paced song with the beat selection being almost perfect for Amiri. Salty conveys a sense of confidence and swagger, with the artist celebrating his success and flaunting his achievements amidst those who may feel jealous or envious.
‘Poppin’ being the most favorable in the fandom makes sense because of the catchiness and the verses coming from both Amiri and Tecca. I just think the two artists mix well together in a song. Poppin explores themes of materialism, self-confidence, toxic relationships, and street life.
‘Ballin’ is a great song with the verses of Amiri being amazing. Ballin revolves around themes of luxury, hedonism, and living a fast-paced lifestyle.
‘Don’t Exist’ being the most downhearted song, is a nice change of pace in the album. And overall from Amiri’s performance and the beat, it’s a good quality song. Don’t Exist delves into themes of isolation, regret, and the feeling of being overlooked or disregarded.
‘Ace’ is just another solid fast paced track. There’s really nothing else to say except it’s a good song. Ace revolves around themes of loyalty, loss, and the harsh realities of street life.
‘Casket’ has one of my favorite choruses out of all of these tracks just because of how different it is from the others. And just how much better it sounds as a fast paced song. Casket portrays themes of wealth, success, and a lavish lifestyle juxtaposed with darker undertones of betrayal and deceit.
‘Dirty Money’ is really just another solid fast paced song, but I would say this song is a bit better than the others. Dirty Money explores the themes of materialism, self-preservation, and the pitfalls of chasing wealth at all costs.
‘Can’t Die’ is my favorite track because of how much heavier the bass is compared to the other songs. Rich Amiri also just does really well on these types of beat productions. Can’t Die is a song that explores themes of self-preservation, cutting ties with negative influences, and establishing a sense of power and control.
Evolution has some pretty good bangers, but just suffers from not having a lot of diversity. And the ones that are different from the fast paced feeling are the best tracks of the song. If Amiri changed it up a bit, I think Evolution would be a lot better.
