Rufino Tamayo was an amazing Mexican artist who was known for his special styles and meaningful influence in the world of art. He was also famous for illustrating current Mexican themes by international avant-garde styles and local sensibilities. Tamayo’s use of lively colors and shapes make his paintings shine. He would sometimes illustrate normal things like people and objects, but in a unique way that shows some meaning towards his painting. His paintings also express his Mexican culture with themes like the transitory nature of civilization, and man’s longing for the eternal. As an artist Tamayo created many graphic works, including woodcuts, lithographs, etchings, and “Mixografia” prints. One of his most famous paintings is “Two People Attacked by Dogs” which shows his knowledge of color and structure. Another of his famous paintings is “The Man” which illustrates a weird figure of a man whose feet are planted on the ground as he reaches upward towards the night sky, which symbolizes the human desire to reach for something much greater. His paintings still inspire artists around the world.
