As we finish out the year as freshmen we come to cherish the moments we had in all of our classes. Especially our favorite class taught by Mr. Bland, our Journalism teacher. Coming into the class as freshmen we didn’t know what to expect. Going into the class for the first time it was filled with students from many different grades and we were nervous and didn’t know how to feel about our teachers yet. It was a nerve wracking class to go into, but little did we know that it would soon become the class that we looked forward to being in every day.
Bland made us feel so welcomed in his class as freshmen and greatly encouraged us to be better writers. At the start of the school year when all three of us became a writing group Bland gave us the title of ‘the freshmen’. That name soon transformed to be the nickname we have now as ‘jokers’ and it has stuck with us since then.
Being a part of journalism with Bland this year has taught us so much not only about ourselves but also so much about writing. In his class we got to experiment with our writing styles and eventually started a series of stories dedicated to our experiences as freshman. Bland’s class gave us the opportunity while also getting to know more about our classmates by doing interviews for stories.
Bland has truly been such a blessing to us in our first year of high school. His classroom was like a safe space to us all throughout the year. If it was a bad day we could always count on going to Mr.Bland’s class to go and relax and have a break on hard days. The vibe that Mr. Bland creates for his classroom is one that no teacher can beat. Bland’s personal vibe alone is not comparable to any other teacher on campus. He has such an amazing class to be a part of because of the positive and chill atmosphere that he creates.
As our Journalism teacher, Mr.Bland has been a blessing to us our freshman year. Towards the beginning of the year it was definitely hard for us with being new to high school and not completely knowing what we’re doing yet but Bland gave us a safe space in his classroom. His class is like a sanctuary to us. Every day we look forward to being able to go to Mr. Bland’s class to not only just relax but be productive while doing so. Bland has guided us all throughout our freshman year, pushed us to be better, and overall given us a place where we know we belong.
