This week on the Sports Inside, we are looking into the mindset of Hughson Huskies coaches and senior Football players. The first game of the season will be held at Hughson’s home stadium where we will also celebrate our Seniors for Senior night. The Huskies are facing the Ceres Bulldogs and hope to kick off the season with a win.
Here are the inside thoughts of some of the coaches and senior players.
Number 4, senior wide receiver and safety Malakia Sumter said, “I’m feeling good about the game and can’t wait to play. I’m excited about the first game but not for Senior Night. I wish it was the last game but it is what it is. And my mindset is to be the best on the field and make sure we come out with a win on Friday.”
Number 10, senior defensive and tight end Max Mankins said, “I’m feeling really good about the game right now. We put in a lot of hard work over the summer and I know our team is ready to go compete. I’m very excited about Senior Night, it’s crazy to me that it’s already my last year. But I want to make the most out of it. My mindset is that I’ve worked harder throughout the off season than the opponent. But I also want to keep a clear mind.”
Number 8, senior quarterback Robert McDaniel said, “I’m feeling great and confident in our practices we had this week. We progressively got better through the week so that is always a positive. Honestly, I am not excited that the first game is Senior night because it means that my time playing is going quicker already with me being a Senior. My mindset is State or Bust.”
Offensive coach and teacher at Hughson High School, Phil Tubera said “We are very excited for the upcoming season. We have a lot of returning players and two Division One commits, which makes the season even more exciting to look forward to. As a team, we had a great off season and we came together. Our camping trips kinda solidified a connection and we came together as a team. We are looking forward to competing with other teams.”
