As the Stadium lights hit the field, the Hughson Huskies ran onto the field with one thing on their mind, and that was winning. Hello My name is Robert McDaniel. I am the quarterback for the Hughson Huskies. I am new to the PAW but not new to football. Each week I will be producing my point of view for each game.
Week 1, Game 1, last first game. A lot of things were going through my mind leading up to the game. But when I stepped into the locker room my mind flipped to a comfortable and relaxed mindset. When I got dressed and went out to the field it gave me goosebumps just from seeing the environment and people coming out to support us. It wasn’t even time for the varsity game and the stands were filled. The moment I went onto the field to warm up during the JV half time I got a burst of energy and was ready to get to work with my guys. I started out by throwing to all my receivers to get our chemistry and timing down before we got the pads on.
Before that I made sure I got a full body warm up to ensure no injuries or tightness occurred. After my receivers and I got our good sweat in we headed back to the locker room to get the pads on. We had to get onto the field a little earlier after we got our pads on because we had Senior Night; It was great to appreciate all the great memories I’ve cherished from my football career at hughson with my family. Once we wrapped that up, it was go time. As we walked in through the front gate I looked back to the week of great preparation from my team and I. Then we ran through the husky and that was a great feeling of appreciation from the town, and man, it was a great feeling.
Game time, here we go! We started out pretty slow with Ceres getting the ball on a turnover but our defense quickly gave us the ball back. We commanded down the field scoring in just under 5 minutes. The first score we had was very special with it being a pass to my brother. After that our defense made another great stop and gave us the ball. We didn’t make the most of it by turning it over due to a fumble; but our defense playing a strong game gave it to us again. We got it together and drove down the field with a balanced attack of run and pass. The score was another passing touchdown on a great catch by number 3, Lawson. We scored 2 more times after that before the half.
We went into the half up 28-0 with confidence but not satisfied with our performance thus far. In the locker room we realized that we were not playing to our level and needed to come out strong the next half. After some great talk with our guys and getting ready to get in the game again we were all locked in. We quickly scored again and that’s when we had a lot of our other guys jump in to finish the game. After the third quarter ended, Ceres scored in the middle of the 4th and we made sure that did not happen again by controlling the ground game and chewing the clock out. The final bell rang and hit the middle of the field with a sense of pleasure. Our mindset set in for celebrating and looking back to the game tonight but as soon as Saturday hit, we flipped to Central Valley.
