Homecoming is finally upon Hughson High School. Traditions run strong in this small town. Homecoming is a very special event at Hughson High School. Homecoming comes with many traditions including being nominated for homecoming royalty, float building, dress up days, and the parade.
Being nominated for Homecoming Royalty is a great honor for a high school student. There are eight students from each class nominated for Homecoming Royalty. These students were nominated by the student body.
The day of Homecoming, the nominees ride in the Hughson Annual Homecoming Parade down Main Street for the community to see. At halftime of the JV and Varsity football games the nominees walk down the field to stand in front of the crowd. This is when the Kings and Queens are announced.
In regards to favorite Homecoming traditions, Grace Leedom, a senior at HHS and a Homecoming nominee, said, “Float building because it brings the class together!” Junior nominee Lawson Aviles said, “The football game, especially with being in it and having that excitement, knowing that a lot more people are going to show up for the reason of Homecoming.”
Grace Brazil, sophomore Homecoming nominee, said, “when I found out that I was nominated for Homecoming I was honored because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.” Freshman nominee Cooper Nobles added, “I felt good because my class voted me out of everyone.”
