Stage is set! First away game day. Central Valley here we go. Always gonna be hectic on the first away game because you never know what the locker room or the timing of when you get there is so always in the unknown. When I first got there we went straight to the locker room to get settled in.
The locker room was a little abnormal because it was kinda small considering our team had a lot of people. When junior varsity hit half time I made sure I had my lowers on and I was on the field getting a good sweat. It is always good to get warmed up and not rush yourself so you can mentally prepare yourself for the game.
The field is brand new so it was pretty cool to see a super clean and neat field. After halftime was over I headed over to the locker room to get fully dressed and ready. We walked out as a team to the baseball field to stretch some more when there was 5 minutes left in the third quarter. The field was pretty far from the locker room. After the good stretch and making sure my timing was locked in with the receivers we headed to the field.
Game time! The boys were ready to go. I walked out with Max, Carlos, and Malakai to get the coin toss. We won and deferred to the second half. Our defense started out great usually and gave us the ball right away. One of our biggest things we worked on this week was taking Central Valley off their timing. One thing we did was change the cadence and this worked great making them jump and have bad reps.
We made quick work and put 6 on the board. Our drives were a little longer so not as many possession switches. We scored two more times in the first half making the score 21-0. Two of the scores were through the air and the last one was a rushing score by Eli Wilbanks.
We went into the half confident and ready to get the ball in the third. We started out great by scoring through the air again to Malakai. The next drive we got was quick due to our defense having a great stop again. This gave us a quick score again from Wilbanks because of the great offensive line protection. After this I got taken out for some other guys to get some reps.
Last year I wouldn’t have been happy to go out but this year is different. I understand that it is great for everyone to get some reps because they are working just as hard to get us ready for the game. Then you know Bryce Williams made a great fumble recovery and took it 90 yards for the score. This made the score 42-0. This took the game to the final whistle and we were victorious.
