This Week on the Sports Inside we are looking into the mindset of Hughson Huskies Girls Golf players and coaches. The girls golf will be facing the Orestimba Warriors. The Girls golf will be held at St. Stanislaus. The Golf team has been making improvements in their team and playing it is showing with them taking a win against Ripon in 15 years. The Huskies hope to bring home a win against Orestimba.
Here are the inside thoughts of some of the Coaches and Senior Players:
Madden Nobles, a Varsity Golf player said, “I’m really excited for this season! The league changed around which definitely added a few challenges for us, but I think that if we just focus we can do whatever we put our minds to. Last year, Varsity consisted of all seniors and then me. We lost a lot of valuable assets to our team, but having such a young team this year might be a strength in our future seasons. I think that with the circumstances of having a young team in the league, we’re doing pretty good so far. And we have so much room to grow and get better, so I’m excited! I’m looking forward to the match this Thursday. None of us know what the Orestimba team looks like, most of us have never played that course before. A new course is definitely a challenge, but I think that we’ll do just fine. We’re 2-1 in league right now, and I know we’re all hoping we continue to get better and even make it to sections!”
Kali Calvache, a Varsity Golf player said, “I feel good about the upcoming season. Our team has increased in people playing from last year, as in the standards of paying. The team is one big family, not just known as teammates. That goes for coaches too. From what I watch, our girls have gotten a lot better than the previous year, but my freshmen year our team was pretty good. As for my second year playing, I believe I have improved my golfing abilities drastically and I feel really good about it. For the upcoming match this Thursday, I’m pretty prepared for it. I can practice before it and make sure my swings, chipping, putting, etc. is good to go.”
Gose and Tetrick the Varsity Golf coaches said, “A great group of athletes were young, but crazy enthusiastic about what we lack and experience.” Tetrick added, “They want to learn and as they learn the season is gonna get better.¨ Gose continued “From seasons past we graduated a lot of starter last year so we have improved greatly from the beginning of the summer to now.¨ Tetrick added, “I am very optimistic it should be a dog race and it should be a one sided event if we golf how we know how to golf.”
