Charley Garza, also known as Mr. Garza, has been teaching for twenty-five years. Garza was inspired to become a teacher because he likes watching kids learn new things, but he was also inspired by his father in-law. His favorite part about teaching is working with young people and helping them learn and think. He stated that his favorite lessons to teach are anything that invokes opinions and thoughts that help others to consider other people’s opinions. Garza thoroughly enjoys being a history teacher, and his goals for his students by the end of the year are to be better at critical thinking and understanding the world around them. He stated that if he wasn’t a teacher, he would like to be a full time coach.
Garza’s way to adapt with students with special needs is to know what they need for what they’re dealing with. He handles classroom discipline by giving them consequences and rewards if they aren’t being disrespectful. Garza doesn’t really witness any conflicts between students; however, through clear communication and a sincere effort to understand one another, conflicts can be resolved. His way to help students who are struggling is giving them encouragement and helping them understand certain things. Garza’s ideal way to deal with stress is talking to God and getting strength from him. His advice for someone who wants to be a teacher is to make sure it’s your passion and put your heart into the job. Garza doesn’t have a favorite memory at this school, but he will always remember how students everyday were always excited to learn.
