Nathan Govett, also known as Mr. Govett, has been teaching for 28 years.
A lot of people inspired Mr. Govett to be a teacher, such as his parents and other teachers from his school. Govett’s favorite part about teaching is how creative he can get and that he gets to bond with the kids so he feels younger again.
His favorite lesson to teach is grammar because he loves his grammar parties. Govett really enjoys being an English teacher, and he also enjoys being a PE teacher. He is not sure what he would be if he wasn’t a teacher; he has stayed on that path and has never thought about anything else.
Govett’s goals for his students are to, “be better at reading and writing and for them to understand the subject more but doing that while getting out of their comfort zone.”
How Govett adapts with students with special needs is, “understanding what the need is.” In the beginning of the school year, Govett tries to get all the students to like each other and if there is ever a problem, he has classroom discipline which means getting parents involved.
Govett’s way to handle conflicts between students is, “having to talk to them both but following the rules while doing so.” His strategies for kids who are struggling are showing that you truly care by giving them extra help, scheduling them for packtime, and letting them turn in late work. How Govett handles stress is by traveling to clear his mind even if it is tricky.
Govett’s advice for someone who wants to be a teacher is that, “it isn’t the same from when I started teaching, so expect meetings every so often and be ready to have boundaries and classroom discipline.”
Govett’s favorite memory from this school is all the kids coming in his class saying that they miss him being their teacher.
