With the introduction to the student coaches, the students, players, and the coaches themselves expect a better offensive scoring game and huge defensive stops. These student coaches are current varsity starters on the football team, and with this they should bring a whole new aspect to powderpuff. Not only with the new plays on offense, and drills to get them ready. They also have good defensive schemes to hopefully shut down the opposing class.
Malakai Sumter, Senior Powderpuff Coach, said “We have been working hard at practice making sure everyone can catch, we also have been implementing a good defense to make sure those Juniors don’t score.”
Valente Soria, Junior Powderpuff coach, said “At practice I made sure that everyone was working hard, I was making sure that I was strict so that we could be at our best during the games. I was also helping out on the scout teams so they could get a good look for the game.”
The players and coaches only had three days to practice before the big game. In these practices they worked on running routes and play calling for the offensive side. For the defensive side live reps against the offensive squad. This allows for the defense and offense to be getting good reps at the same time. With the kid coaches being in highschool and on the varsity team they were able to hop in and help with getting better looks on what to expect. With both adult coaches being from the Varsity football team they were able to bring the extensive knowledge of offense and defense to their teams.
Giselle Jaurique, Junior Powderpuff player, said “In practice we have been working to push each other so we can understand the plays and so we can be at a more competitive level.”
Finley Wells, Senior PowderPuff player, said “In our practices we focused on the juniors team’s biggest strength, Presley. We also focused on just having a good time and winning since it’s our senior year.”
