This week on Sports Inside, we are looking into the mindset of the Hughson Huskie’s coaches and football players. The Hughson game will be held at the home stadium; this is the Huskies first home league game coming into the season. The Huskies will be facing the Escalon Cougars, one of their rivals. This is a big game for the Huskies. They haven’t defeated the Cougars for 2 years so they are hoping to beat them in this game.
Here are the inside thoughts of some of the coaches and football players.
Number 8, senior quarterback, Robert McDaniel said, “Some things we’ve been implementing are having people in different spots to throw them out of the normal and little variations to mess with them. We need to have the mindset that we are always in the game and that we need to stay focused and make sure we don’t get complacent with the score. I think the best way to look at this game is to take each play at a time. Escalon in itself is gonna be a challenge because they are always competitive on both sides of the ball.”
Number 13, junior wide receiver, Bryce McDaniel said “We plan to keep high spirits by just never getting down on ourselves if something bad happens during the game because we will need to bounce back to make a good play so we can’t get down, the game is never over until there is zero’s on the clock. I like to stay focused by just playing my game and not letting any of the other team’s players get into my head and if I mess up I just tell myself that it’s fine, let’s go make the next play. The biggest challenge is going to be just not letting them get into our heads and making us do stupid things. We can’t afford to have any big flags against us just because Escalon always has a good team.”
Number 7, junior tight end and linebacker, Valente Soria said, “We have been playing fast and memorizing their formation and what they do and finding their tendencies. And we have also been really strict on how we practice and making sure we have everything down good so we can win. Us as a team are gonna be cheering each other on and communicating a lot on the field and being really hype on the side lines. How I stay focused is I look back at Pop-Worner days and it helps to give me a purpose of what i’m playing for as well as during the game. I like to be calm, take deep breaths and I just go with the flow. The biggest challenge is they run the ball a lot so we need to make sure we stop that as well as the best player the tide end who they like to pass a lot to and if we stop that then we can end the game.”
