On Wednesday, September 25th, the Huskies participated in the second meet of the TVL. It was held at Mavis Stouffer Park once again. Now that this was the huskies second time running this course, they are now familiar with the terrain could now run their best. It wasn’t as hot as the first league meet, so that helped a lot as well.
Results:
Varsity Boys: First
Varsity Girls: Second
JV Boys: First
JV Girls: Second
Varsity wise, the boys were able to beat Ripon, but only by six points. Although most Huskies ran personal records, they need to improve enough to be able to comfortably win their meets, with points to spare. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to out run Hilmar like they did in TVL #1, so they will have to run their hearts out in League Finals in order to take the title of League Champions.
For JV, the boys were able to pull off a win against Ripon, winning by over twenty points. The girls were unable to beat Hilmar, but do not be discouraged, the amount of improvement and progress they’ve have been making is good.
When asked about the experience, Juan Palos, a Freshman and the winner of the JV Boys 2 mile (closer to 2.15 miles) with a time of 12:28, said “For the first mile of the race was pretty nervous because I felt like I kept speeding up and I thought I wasted all my energy.” and, “I see the J.V team making it to sections and hopefully state.”
Bringing up the teams morale and how they felt after the meet, Alessandro Pimentel, a Junior and our teams #3 Varsity Boys runner, said, “The atmosphere was good, lots of jokes flying around. I believe the varsity team has a chance at going to State, but if we don’t, then I’m glad we had the dream.”
With every meet the Huskies run, they can create and focus on reaching realistic goals. With this improvement we’ve been able to obtain, the future looks bright for the Huskies.
