Ever wondered why Halloween is celebrated and why it has such a scary and wicked night that lots of people enjoy? Halloween has been this spooky and scary night when lots of people dress up as their favorite characters or anybody. Friends can hang out and have a good time trick or treating and sharing laughs. But if you were to ask someone how Halloween started, and why it did, some would not exactly give you an exact answer. So, how did Halloween start and why is it celebrated till this day?
This holiday that many people enjoy was once a tradition for the Celtic Festival. This festival would allow people to wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off spirits to protect them. This festival is far from what we have today and how we look and celebrate it. We don’t use costumes as a way to warn or make ghosts and spirits leave.
Halloween would be brought to the United States by American colonists which also celebrated this holiday. Soon the American colonies were influenced by different kinds of cultures and Halloween began to change to how we celebrate it now. As Halloween began to evolve and change they began to have “play parties”. Which were all celebrated for the harvest.
These things happened before our spooky day in which we all hide behind masks and pretend to be other people. Lots of things were happening for Halloween to get to the point it is at right now. So, this is how the holiday that we all love originated from. And I hope everyone has a wonderful and frightful Halloween!
