Daniel “DJ” Sexton, also known as Mr. Sexton or DJ has been teaching for two years.
DJ had a lot of inspiration, especially from fellow teachers, Kroll and Ruelas. Sexton’s favorite part about teaching is the interactions with his students. His favorite lessons to teach are talking about the unique turns and moments in world history. Sexton enjoys being both a State Requirements teacher and World history teacher. He enjoys the difference between both subjects and loves talking about both.
If Sexton wasn’t a teacher, he would have no idea what he would be. DJ has dreamed about this since he was 16. His goal for his students by the end of the school year is to see how their actions and choices impact the world. DJ tries to accommodate the best he can with students with special needs.
Sexton handles classroom discipline by setting expectations and consequences with his class. He handles conflicts between students by finding out the main issue between the two. DJ’s strategies for students who are struggling are to give them extra time on their assignments.
He does not get stressed often so he doesn’t worry about work too much. Sexton’s advice for someone who wants to become a teacher is to only do it if you love it. Teaching is tough but if you truly can handle that and stress then do it. You probably should be a teacher aid in some classes to find out if you truly like teaching.
DJ enjoys every minute of his day here at Hughson High School. He loves all his students and loves the memories he has made with them.
