Last Saturday, October 19th, the Huskies hosted one of the most exciting meets of many athletes seasons, the Annual Hughson Supercross Invitational. Teams from all over the state participated in this unique event of 4 kilometers and a mud pit. Varsity runner Samuel Alvarado, a sophomore, stated, “It was a fun experience going through the mud and possibility getting sick from it.” This meet is one that you can have fun and not take extremely serious, making it enjoyable.
This being a home meet for the team, we have experience. And with the advantage, the huskies improved.
Results:
Freshmen/Sophomore Boys: 1st
JV Boys: 8th
Varsity Boys: 4th
JV Girls: 3rd
Varsity Girls: 5th
The Freshmen/Sophomore boys were able to pull away with a win by 50 points with the top 5 all within the top 15 runners in the race. Our other teams, although the results don’t seem too great, the majority of all other runners set personal records and showed improvement.
With TVL Finals being the next meet, and most important, steadily improving and keeping the same fitness is what we’re looking for. When asked about the stability and position of the team, Carlos Nava, a sophomore, said, “It’s great that our fourth through ninth runners (Varsity Boys) are really close together in ability, and how consistent we have been these past couple of weeks.” Having many people close in ability level makes for greater team strength and easier training.
Right now, the Huskies are looking to snag the TVL title, or become Co-Champions. Unfortunately, we won’t know until next Thursday, so see you then!
