Hughson High School Varsity Football team ended a 10-year losing streak against their rivals, Hilmar, last Friday night. Hughson ended the game on a high note with a final score of 41-24. Throughout the game, the stands were packed and loud with air horns and cheering hyping up the football players for their game. Although Hughson made history by breaking their 10-year losing streak against Hilmar, they must remain focused and practice diligently for the upcoming playoffs. Hughson’s win against Hilmar kept their perfect season alive.
Jamesson Davis number 18 said, “Hilmar’s game was very loud from both stands and it brought a very electric and fun feel to the game.”
In the Hughson win against Hilmar, star quarterback Robert McDaniel threw 3 touchdowns, thrilling the game with excitement as wide receiver Bryce McDaniel picked up 2 touchdown passes increasing the lead for Hughson. Each pass, each run was a step closer to victory.
Bryce McDaniel, number 13, said, “I think the game was very exciting. It was just a great experience to finally beat Hilmar since it had been 10 years since Hughson had done that. It was also nice to know that we had won TVL which Hughson also hasn’t done in forever. Our team worked hard for the game at practice because they knew how much it meant to everyone on the team just to beat Hilmar. Everyone showed up to practice with their A-game and came ready to work.”
Despite some questionable refereeing in the game against Hilmar, Hughson still played with determination to win and put up a strong fight. The Hughson Varsity Football team put in an insane amount of effort for this win, and they truly earned every point and touchdown they scored.
Coach king said, “I’ve been coaching for 18 years, 9 of those at Hughson. These boys have worked hard all year including the off-season to achieve the success we have had so far this season.”
With Hughson’s big win against Hilmar, we can’t wait to see how far we can get in the playoffs! All the team’s dedication and hard work really shows how strong Hughson’s football team really is. And were excited to see where the rest of the season takes us.
