My name is Shawn and I’m about to come home from school and head home with my good friend Jessica. She is my best friend. We were about to go out to a Halloween party in the evening. Jessica and I walk home together and she is trying to get me to ask out my crush. The girl I have a crush on is Ashley and I tried to ask her out before, but couldn’t build up the courage to do it. I told her I would and that I would have to just wait for the right moment. I made it home and Jessica said bye to me and would see me at the party. I walked inside and found my father and my little brother, Jordan, doing a contest to see who gets the last chocolate bar. My brother is 10 years old and was ecstatic about winning that last chocolate bar. Meanwhile, I was preparing for the party that’s happening in a few hours and I asked Dad for some money and he asked “what I was going to do with it” and I just told him it was for the party. He gave me 40 bucks and then asked me to check on Jordan. I realized he was outside just playing around with his zombie costume.
My brother bumped into my aggressive neighbor who was about my age and my neighbor started pushing him around. I ran outside and told him to, “back off man, he is just a kid. He didn’t do anything wrong.” Then he started making fun of my brother and wanted to fight. I tried to ignore him and then he started punching me and I was defending myself and then I pushed him and he landed on a rock and It broke his back and the cops saw me do this and demanded I put my hands up. My father heard the commotion and ran outside and pleaded, “don’t shoot my sons, they didn’t do anything wrong.” I was on the ground with my hand behind my back and then he shot my father. When that happened, I passed out. I saw the cop get sent flying by something and when I woke up I saw flames everywhere and the cop car flipped over and with my Dad on the ground bleeding. I started crying and he said his final words to me saying, “Protect your brother, he is special and take care of each other. I love you son.” He dies right there in my hands. I carry my brother and run. We started living on the run. I kept thinking about what my father said to me before his death. I didn’t have time to worry about that though. I had to take care of my brother.
