This is a science fiction mixed with a dystopian, it’s set in 2042 where humans concurred dying and they are run by this thing called the Thunderhead. All the Thunderhead does is make sure the people pay for whatever they need to and that the people who need more discipline get it. Humans constantly splat (jump off buildings) or jump in front of cars, or are really careless because when they die they just wake up at the doctors where they are given ice cream and sent home. But you still do age, the only thing is you can still reset your age to any point that you decide. So to keep the population in check there are Scythes who are trained to pick a person or family to “glean,” aka kill, and you can’t come back from this one. Every so often they have a scythe pick an apprentice to train and they have to go through a trial to become a scythe and keep the world spinning… till a scythe picks two apprentices.
I really did enjoy this book, just not all the books in the series. I thought the idea of this world was really cool and it would be fun to live in it, at first at least. It’s crazy to think that the book was published in 2016 and the author thinks that by 2042 we are no longer going to be able to die, personally I don’t think we’re going to develop that much! I think this book was just a fun book to read, especially to see the two apprentices interact and deal with each other and the struggles they went through during the book.
