The Hughson Huskies have not been known very well for their basketball team. Whenever you think of the Hughson Huskies, you might think of their football team or even their baseball team. With the Huskies switching out coaches to hopefully find success, the Huskies might have found their new, and the best, Varsity head coach they’ve had so far. The coach’s name is RJ Henderson and he teaches at Denair High School.
Hector Nuno, basketball player, said, “I think that the new coach is going to be great for the team, it’s going to be like a fresh start for the team. I feel like this year we are going be way more competitive.”
The new coach has some good accomplishments under his belt. At the previous schools he has coached for, they have won previous sections and had good playoff runs. He was also 13-1 against big teams in the TVL. These teams consisted of Ripon, Ripon Christian, Hilmar, and Escalon. The coach’s plan and mentality going into this year is winning.
Malakai Sumter, Senior basketball player said, “I feel like with the new coaching staff this year it’s going to help the team bring more competition to the court. This year we are going to be playing with different skills because we have the new coaches teaching us the moves.”
With some of the players going through multiple coaches and some of the new players getting this new coach experience, the team will have to find a way to overcome this hurdle. With a new coach comes new schemes, new plays, and new mentalities. There have even been people transferring schools, or not going to their original high school and instead coming here to HHS.
Jackson Gerhrke, Senior basketball player said, “The new coaching is going to be a challenge at first just because we have to learn all the new stuff they put in. But, once the team gets it all down, we are going to have a pretty competitive team this year.”
