As the section game approaches for the girls against the undefeated Colfax Falcons here’s what you need to know.
After two exhilarating wins the flag football team began to adjust to the playoff environment. While the volleyball team’s luck ran out after their first round upset win, it’s up to the flag football team to support the girls’sports. The two huge wins had propelled the team to the thrid round of playoffs where they faced rival school Orestimba High who robbed the Huskies of an individual TVL championship. This ended up being the game of the year especially with both teams seasons on the line. The last time these two met the Warriors won in overtime by one point, but this time the Huskies got the best of them 21-18 with a game winning interception carving their path to the section game. This will be Hughson’s second away playoff game but they have shown that the team can win on the road or at home.
Hopefully the team’s leaders can step up and lead the team to the section championship for their first ever season. Strong coaching has been a key point to the Huskies success this year and after watching this group play almost double digit games it’s clear the amount of improvement continues to grow as the year progresses. The Falcons may be undefeated but have not played the strong competition that the Huskies have making this game more winnable than it appears. Tessah Burroughs has this to say about the game, “I think we can make it a close matchup between us and Colfax, we did a tweak of a few plays to work around their defense after watching their film, if everyone on defense does their job as well as our offense works hard and in the right mindset we can come home tomorrow with the blue banner.”
We wish the best of luck to the team and we hope they can come home with the win and finish the season with a smile on their faces.
