Thanksgiving is a holiday that celebrates that act of giving thanks to people around you. Loved ones come together and enjoy yummy feats and give thanks, just as the Pilgrims and Native Americans once did in November of 1621. We took to find out what students at Hughson High School love to eat most during this festive holiday.
To get a diverse range of opinions, we interviewed students from different grades. Each student was asked about their favorite Thanksgiving dish and why it holds a special place in their hearts.
Kelsi Brower, a sophomore, explained, “mashed potatoes are a classic and you could never go wrong with them. Mashed potatoes is another fan favorite from Jill Baptista, a junior, who also said, “my family has a homemade recipe, and it’s really good!” Mina Bylsma, a junior, explained to us her love for pie. She told us, “specifically pumpkin pie, actually any pie! It fulfills my sweet treat and it’s very yummy!”
Madi Collins, a junior, said, “Mac and cheese, because it’s the best homemade and it is very good.” While Victoria, another junior, told us about her favorite thing, gravy! She said, “Bread rolls and gravy! It’s from Costco and it is delicious.” Julia Daniels, yet another junior, gave us our first response for turkey. Julia goes on to explain, “turkey, because it is juicy.”
Thanksgiving is more than just a meal, it’s a celebration of family, tradition, and the unique flavors that bring us together. Whether it’s a classic turkey, or just a special family recipe, the food we share on this day is important to our precious culture.
