Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a club that focuses on strengthening faith, and coming together as athletes and a community. FCA was founded by Don McClanen in 1954. Many students at Hughson High participate and speak highly about this club. FCA teaches students how to praise God in their everyday lives and apply that in their sport.
Carolyn Jones, a physical education teacher at Hughson High, is the advisor of FCA. Jones said, “FCA focuses on equipping, enabling, empowering, and encouraging student athletes, coaches, and adult leaders to impact and influence our campus for Christ.” FCA creates a sense of community among those in the club, and it creates a more positive atmosphere at Hughson High.
Emily Yarbrough, a senior at Hughson High, is a part of FCA. She said, “The best part of FCA is getting to share the love of Jesus and helping to get people connected in a church. I love my fellow huddle members and it’s just a safe space for all of us.” Emily is looking forward to connecting with other people this year and further strengthening FCA. She said, “I would like others to know that FCA is a very welcoming club. We want to spread the love of Jesus and help others to understand what he did for us.” Emily joined this club to help with outreach and just find ways to help FCA in general.
Madden Nobles, a junior at Hughson High, is also involved in FCA. Madden said, “I think that the best part of being in FCA is just having such a strong community of students and leaders that come together to share the love of God on a public school campus.” She wants other students to know that FCA is not just for athletes, and it is just supposed to be a safe place for people to learn about God and come together as a community. Madden added, “No matter who you are or what you come from, you can enjoy God’s grace and love surrounded by other students who want to do the same.”
