Going into the second round of playoffs, the Hughson Huskies varsity football team will be going up against the Union Mine Diamondbacks. This game will be held at the Huskies stadium Friday night at 7. The Huskies have had a great season; so far they are 11-0 with the win of TVL. They have blown other teams out of the league but have had games with people up on their feet. Sonora was the closest game of the year with the huskies beating them 52-51. The community has come together to cheer on the boys for working so hard through the season. And being able to execute their skills on the field.
According to number 8, Robert Mcdaniel, Hughson’s Quarterback, said, “Going into this season I had a lot of expectations being a senior and us having continuous success. I knew that we had a standard built into this year because we won the past two years. Going into league we had to make sure we played each game at a time and not look at a game ahead to make sure we didn’t slip up and drop a game we shouldn’t have. As we got later into the league we faced the other undefeated team in Sonora and we knew we had to go into that game and play our best and that’s what we did. This game gave us the TVL title but this is one of the 3 goals we want to achieve. The next goal is the section which is next week if we win this week. We have to make sure we come out strong this week and be firing on all cylinders to come out on top.”
According to the running back coach, Justice Futch, he said, “It’ll be a tough match up for us. They are the type of offense that I feel like we’ve struggled with in recent years. They are a very good team. They are probably one of the better teams we’ve seen all year, and the rain will also make it very interesting. So, as far as our season goes, I think it’s been an awesome season. It’s kind of the 1st year. Well, it’s the 1st year we’ve won, you know, TVL championships since 1998. You know, we’ve won, like, section titles and state titles before we finally won another league title. So, it’s just it just feels really good to get that monkey off our back. So, yeah, I think it’s been an awesome year so far.”
